SEEKING A PLACE OF SAFETY

The secluded cloistered garden of the Collegiale Saint-Salvi in Albi is a place of quiet serenity. A beautifully kept garden adds a colourful display of spring flowers. One could imagine the monks using this area for their meditation and prayer in the 10th century when the church was built. It has undergone various stages of renovation as is evident from the different styles of architecture - the Romanesque of the 10th century, the Gothic of the 13th century and then the post-Revolution repairs of the 19th century. The church was almost completely destroyed during the Revolution and was used as a grain store until it was returned to the Church in 1800's.

The pigeon below had sought refuge in an alcove behind the statue of a praying monk ... probably an excellent move with this cat on the prowl!
