This week I will be posting photographs of the town of Albi in the Tarn region. The cathedral of Sainte-Cecile resembles a fortress rather than a church and dominates the town and the surrounding area. It was no doubt the intention of its architects to create a building that exemplified the power of the Church as it was built in the 13th century after the Albigensian crusade of 1265. This crusade had been launched to unseat the Cathars who had rebelled against the power of the Church.
