The Canal Saint-Martin was opened in 1825 as a shorter link for river traffic between some of the loops of the Seine. It now provides the local residents with entertainment and relaxation opportunities at canal-side restaurants, theatres and cinemas ... or if if you are a fisherman, the chance to sit on the bank and see what you can tempt.
