THE MASK MERCHANT


This statue of the Merchant of Masks is in the Luxembourg Gardens.  The young boy holds aloft the mask of Alexandre Dumas while at his feet are those of Victor Hugo, Leon Gambetta, Hector Berlioz and Honore de Balzac.

What is the message being conveyed?  That one can choose to assume these persona, carry on where they left off?  They no longer need their "masks" - they are available to their successors ...

Intriguing and certainly challenging ...
