There have always been walls ...
Walls to keep out predators, enemies and the cold.
[A troglodyte habitation - La Roque Saint-Christophe in the Dordogne]
There have been walls to keep livestock from escaping.
[A field near the abbey church of St Martia in Paunat in the Dordogne]
There have also been walls built just for show - serving no real purpose - perhaps, just there to fulfill a promise once made!
[On a back road near Soulaleve in the Dordogne]
And then again there can be no walling ... just the gnashing of teeth.
