"All that glitters is not GOLD!"
One can only imagine the excitement of the early prospectors when they discovered these veins of glittering metal in the quartzite outcrops near the town of Pilgrim's Rest ... only to be disillusioned by the more experienced miners when told that their treasure was iron pyrites!
Old abandoned "skips" filled with glittering rocks decorate the streets of the late 19th century village of Pilgrim's Rest - a poignant reminder of the frenzied activity that yielded very little gold, but loads of disappointment!
