LALINDE
The small "harbour basin" on the canal which flows through the town of Lalinde on the Dordogne, reminds us of an earlier time.
The canal was built as a detour round a section of the Dordogne which was not navigable due to rapids and the shallowness of the river.
The construction of the railway eventually resulted in the reliance on river barges becoming redundant in the area.
