CHIMNEYS


Looking down on the roofs of Paris from the gardens surrounding Sacre Coeur, one is always struck by the proliferation of chimneys - chimneys of all shapes and sizes, most one would expect, now redundant - reminders of an earlier time before central heating, when Parisians would have relied on coal fires to keep warm in winter.
