One often finds evidence of the sense of humour of builders and painters in old churches.
This little statue of a mason with his pair of dividers was no more than 20 cm tall and was stuck away in a dark corner of the cathedral in Vendome.
Obviously carved by a gifted stonemason to amuse his co-workers or to annoy his supervisor ... I am pleased that it has survived through the centuries.
