ROCK STARS … #2 BOURKE'S LUCK POTHOLES














Bourke's Luck Potholes may be found at the confluence of the Treur River (above) and the Blyde or Motlatse River (right). The rapidly flowing rivers carry pebbles and hard igneous boulders that exploit weaknesses in the rock bed of the river forming these large potholes or cauldrons.


The potholes are named after Thomas Bourke a gold prospector who was reputed to have found gold nuggets in the area in the 1880s.
