PORTE DES TOURS, DOMME

The bastide town of Domme was established in 1281 by Philip the Bold. Its mountain top position gives one a spectacular panoramic view of the Dordogne valley. Much of the wall surrounding the town is still intact as are a number of the gates. The Porte des Tours above is flanked by prison cells built in 1307 to accommodate Knights Templar after their arrest by the King.
