DAGLAN

The village of Daglan in the Dordogne dates back to the 1300s when parish records indicate that it had a population of about 600. Being close to the front between the English and French forces during the Hundred Years War, it became deserted as people fled to more peaceful areas. In the 15th century people again settled in the region and it became famous for its wine production.

The population grew to 1600 in the 18th century, however the phylloxera epidemic destroyed the vines resulting again in an exodus. Today, Daglan has a cosmopolitan population who have chosen this idyllic valley for their holiday or retirement homes.
