SO MUCH WINE, SO LITTLE TIME ...


A holiday in the Western Cape would be incomplete without visits to a number of wine farms. The picture above was taken from the terrace below the restaurant at La Petite Ferme in Franschhoek and shows the green swathes of vines.

In 2006 the South African Department of Agriculture estimated that vineyards covered an area of 100 146 hectares of South Africa's arable land. It has also been estimated that South African wine production averages 10 million hectolitres per year ... about 1 333 000 000 bottles!
