Le Procope lays claim to being the oldest coffee shop in the world!
It was established in 1686 by a Sicilian - Francesco Procopio dei Coltelli and is reputed to have hosted Benjamin Franklin, Voltaire and Napoleon!
It is alleged that Voltaire consumed up to 40 cups of coffee mixed with chocolate per day.
The modern day Le Procope (under the flags on the right) was revamped in 1989 in the style of the 18th century.
