Thousands of children have played this game on the carousel in the Luxembourg Gardens.
The operator presents the older children with a stick polished smooth with use over the years and they then attempt to collect rings from the holder as they pass. There are no prizes, there are no losers or winners - just the satisfaction of managing to collect a ring or two and the urge to improve with each subsequent ride.
The happy enthusiasm and intense concentration of the children does not appear to be contagious ...
