I took this photograph in Saint-Denis a year ago. It shows a typical French community going about their business - no fear, no prejudice, no disrespect, no intolerance - the way it should be.
A poster states: "Ensemble, nous sommes Saint-Denis!" (Together, we are Saint-Denis!) emphasizing this community's unity, solidarity and mutual respect, despite their obvious diversity of race, faith, age, affluence and gender.
This is how it should be and I am sure this is the sentiment that will prevail in the marches held across France today as people re-assert their commitment to the foundations of French democracy - Liberte, Egalite et Fraternite.
I will be there in spirit!
