Wine making has been an important industry in France for hundreds of years. It is certainly labour intensive with the initial processes often being conducted in a festive atmosphere.
This 15th century tapestry shows the vendange, the grape harvest, the pressing of the grapes and the juice being placed in barrels. The expressions on the workers' faces show their anticipation of the eventual enjoyment of the product of their labour, although some do appear a little impatient!
This tapestry is exhibited in the Cluny Museum of Medieval Arts in Paris.
