An unusual view of le tour. Designed by Gustave Eiffel as a "temporary structure" to illustrate French expertise in the steel construction industry during the 1889 Exposition Universelle, the tower is now 125 years old!
It is alleged that it can be seen from 85 miles (136 km) away!
Gustave Eiffel seemed to lament that his creation surpassed him in popularity when he wrote, "I ought to be jealous of the tower. She is more famous than I am."
