SMALL DETAILS

When walking through the streets of a medieval village like Beynac, one is often drawn to small details, each of which has a story to tell:

The time-weathered, lichen-covered stone head above a doorway which has seen a 500 year procession through the street below;

The elaborately carved statuette balanced in a niche in the wall of a church seemingly
regretting the loss of the staff he once held in his right hand;

The moss and ferns growing between the rough rock tiles of a roof ensuring that no rain enters or warmth leaves the house;

And the carefully fashioned brass escutcheon plate covering the keyhole in the church door - a craftsman's legacy that has endured for hundreds of years.

Look for the small details as they often add to the enjoyment of one's visit and understanding of what has gone before.
