This intricate sculpture of birds helping themselves to grapes is to be found on one of the columns in the 12th Century church in the hilltop village of Troo (Loir-et-Cher).
I found the subject intriguing and the reason for this depiction of the birds' destruction of the farmers' crops, unfathomable! Surely the farmers in the congregation would not have enjoyed being reminded of what was happening in their vineyards, while they listened to the sermon!
