SAINT-GEORGES GATE, VENDOME

This is one of the imposing entrances to the city of Vendome in the Loir-et-Cher region of France.  Although most of the city's ramparts have disappeared, the narrow Saint-Georges Gate remains.  This portail demands that motorists are courteous, patient and have the ability to steer their vehicles slowly through a gateway designed centuries ago for pedestrians and men on horseback.  The scrapes on the sides of the gateway indicate that this has not always been the case.

OJ - continuing to remember a pleasant afternoon spent in the lovely city of Vendome
