We tend to consider "heritage" as an accumulation of human achievement and cultural practices, but what of the other species with whom we share this planet?
Henry Beston, the American author and naturalist, put it like this:
"They are not brethren, they are not underlings;
They are other Nations, caught with ourselves
in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour
and travail of the Earth."
