My first impression of Amsterdam was that there appeared to be more bicycles than people ... bicycles were everywhere and seemed to enjoy preferential treatment in the busy streets. Cars and buses would willingly give way to people pedalling through the traffic. The "parking" of bicycles also posed a problem which had been addressed by mooring two "parking barges" to the quay where cyclists could leave their bikes.
