After arriving after dark at our gite we had no idea of what the area looked like until opening the curtains the next morning and being greeted with the view shown above. The splendid mountains, the forests filling the valleys and the brilliant clear autumn sky - all seemed so peaceful and quiet!
Later we drove to the top of the Entremont valley over the Col du Granier which is overlooked by the imposing Mont Granier shown below, but this seemingly solid gigantic block of limestone is not as stable as one would hope! In 1248 a massive rock slide resulted in the destruction of villages below the mountain and the deaths of more than a thousand people.
Smaller rockfalls have continued over the years including two in 2016, one of which was recorded in the short video below ... click on the link.
