Montmartre (the hill of martyrs) with an altitude 130 metres higher than the flood plain of the Seine is the highest point in the city of Paris.
With the white marble Basilica of Sacre Coeur built on the summit of the hill, it is visible from most points in the city.
On the left, the view that is revealed as one starts walking up the hill from the Metro station, Anvers. On the right was our view of Sacre Coeur from the kitchen window of the apartment we hired in the 18th arrondissement (Quartier deLa Chapelle).
