I first heard of the "stick and rings" game played by children while riding the Jardin du Luxembourg carousel when I listened to Adam Gopnick's reading of his book "Paris to the Moon". It is a game which tests the eye-hand coordination of the children. Once they have snared all the rings on their stick, their only reward is the joy of finally achieving this long-awaited goal. The complicity of the carousel operator in making the task a little easier, is never complained about!
If you love Paris, you will love this book!
