The town of La Roque-Gageac nestles on a very narrow strip of land between the Dordogne and a steep cliff face. This photograph was taken in January when the river was flowing particularly strongly due to snow falls upstream. Flood levels from previous years are marked on the walls of some of the buildings when the river has burst its banks and residents have found themselves "between a rock and the river"!
