REFLECTIONS ON THE LOIR

I have often been corrected when I refer to Le Loir by people who think I am referring to La Loire. The Loir is a smaller river which lies north of the better known Loire with its magnificent chateaux.  A loir is actually a dormouse, but I have not been able to ascertain whether there is a connection between that cute little rodent and the river which shares its name!
