CATHERINE DE MEDICI
Catherine de Medici was the Queen of France from 1547 to 1559 as the wife of King Henry II.
This statue in the Jardins du Luxembourg portrays her as an austere, rather forbidding lady.
Was this the result of Henry excluding her from state affairs, preferring to favour his mistress, Diane de Poitiers?
Probably.
