MUSEE DU LOUVRE

The buildings that now house the art collections of the Musee du Louvre began as a fortress built by King Philipp-Auguste in 1190.  Subsequent renovations and additions by French kings and emperors over a period of more than four centuries resulted in the magnificent buildings and courtyards which are visited by thousands of tourists every year.
