This typical Haussman boulevard was completed in 1876 and links the Opera de Paris Garnier with the Louvre, the roof of which can be seen in the distance. Hectares of medieval buildings in narrow streets were demolished in Haussman's dramatic modernization of Paris in the 1860's and 70's.
