PALAIS DU LUXEMBOURG

The Palais du Luxembourg was completed in 1631 in a style chosen to remind Marie de Medicis of her home in Florence. Unfortunately (for her) by the time it was ready for her to move in, she could not, as she had been banished to the Chateau de Blois from whence she escaped to Belgium, then the Netherlands and finally Germany.

The palace was used as a prison during the Revolution. It was the World War II headquarters of the Luftwaffe, but now houses the French Senate.
