EMPRISONNEMENT A DOMME

The Port des Tours on the left is one of the gates to the bastide of Domme. The gate is flanked by a 13th century prison (above and to the right) where 70 Knights Templar were imprisoned from 1307 to 1318. The inner walls of the prison are covered by graffiti which they carved into the stone. The graffiti shows that they remained faithful to their beliefs despite the persecution they endured.
