Originally called the Place Louis XV, this magnificent square in the centre of Paris became the infamous Place de la Revolution during the Reign of Terror and was the site of the guillotine. During just two and a half years, 1119 people were executed including King Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, Danton and Robespierre. It was renamed Place de la Concorde after the revolution in a spirit of contriteness and reconciliation.
