3 PICS: CHARTRES CATHEDRAL WINDOWS

The windows of Chartres Cathedral are truly breathtakingly beautiful and have attracted art historians for centuries.

The North Transept Rose above has at its centre, the Virgin and Child enthroned, while the 12 Kings of Judea are featured in the diamond shaped frames. The 12 major prophets of Israel are featured in the semi-circular frames on the perimeter of the major circle.

The window to the right shows the parable of the Good Samaritan and the story of the Creation, Adam and Eve. On the left is a record of the life of St Mary Magdalen.

There are 60 major stained glass windows in the cathedral!
