LEUR DERNIER LIEU DE REPOS

Although tempted to compare these boats to the current state of the world's stock exchanges, I chose to describe them differently!

I came across similar scenes in many places along the Dordogne - old rowing and sailing boats, obviously no longer "river-worthy", moored in what could only be described as their last resting place. Why would their owners do this? Is it out of respect for the service and pleasure they provided that they are allowed to rest in peace?
