LE TOUR DE FRANCE COMMENCE
The Tour de France started today in the Netherlands with a time trial through the streets of Utrecht. It has been estimated that there are 1,2 bicycles per person in the Netherlands! This of course poses a problem regarding "parking" places for the bikes. The photo above was taken in Amsterdam and shows one of the solutions: Old barges are moored in the canals and people are encouraged to leave their bicycles on the barge rather than in the street. Some cyclists seem to have been co-operative.
