STONE BRIDGE OVER THE DORDOGNE

There are a number of magnificent limestone bridges across the Dordogne such as this rail bridge near Tremolat. The introduction of the railway in the 19th century resulted in the demise of a flourishing river boat transportation system that linked Bordeaux to the interior regions of Aquitane. The only boats that now ply the river are for holiday-makers and fisherman.
