SARLAT RENOVATIONS



I love looking at old buildings and identifying the renovations carried out by their successive occupants over the centuries.

Take this quaint Sarlat building as an example - if one looks carefully one can see that an archway has at some time been closed up and a window inserted. Higher up one also notices that stonemasons have carefully cut openings in the stone to accommodate two small (modern?) rectangular windows. One also sees that of the decorative canopies that once covered the tops of the windows on the left, only one remains.

The history of the house is written in stone ...
