CHARTRES CATHEDRAL

According to the art historian Emile Male, "Chartres is the manifestation of the mind of the Middle Ages". The construction of this Gothic masterpiece began in 1020. The cathedral was unfortunately largely destroyed by fire in 1194, but the local populace took just 25 years to rebuild their beloved cathedral. Very few changes have occurred to the structure in the past 750 years.

It miraculously survived the Wars of Religion, the French Revolution and World War II.
