SAINT-CYPRIEN

The town of Saint-Cyprien in the Dordogne surrounds this impressive monastery of the same name.  Saint-Cyprien, the founder of the monastery was a hermit who lived in a cave nearby in the 6th century.

The church displays many scars from "wounds" suffered during its 1400 years of existence. Much of the damage was sustained during the 16th century Wars of Religion when the Calvinists used the church building as an arsenal!
