LE PARC DES BUTTES-CHAUMONT
As the city of Paris grew, it began to encompass some of the unsightly features that had once been beyond its boundaries.
Le Parc des Buttes-Chaumont was originally a quarry as well as the site for the gallows! Later it became a garbage dump.
In the 1860s Baron Haussmann ensured that the site was converted into something much more attractive - a park with waterfalls, a forest, lake, suspension bridge and a Roman style temple on the tallest hilltop.
