AU BORD DE LA DORDOGNE - 6
Chateau de Beynac as seen from the Chateau de Castelnaud, 4 kilometres away and on the other side of the Dordogne.
Beynac was built in the 12th century and was occupied by the French during the Hundred Years' War, while the English forces were strategically ensconced in Castelnaud. Obviously both antagonists could keep a close watch on each other from their respective vantage points.
