An OLIVE WOODPECKER hammers away at the bark of a Coral Tree in search of small insects. I had never really thought about the brain-damaging consequences of a life spent bashing away at trees until I read an article in the excellent blog www.infinitespider.com on the evolutionary adaptations that woodpeckers have undergone to make them immune to concussion and other head and neck injuries.
