With the canals no longer in daily use for the transportation of goods in and out of Paris, the old warehouses and quays have been converted into facilities for entertainment and education. The Parc de la Villette includes the Cite des Sciences, the Cite de la Musique, theatres and cinemas as well as a number of restaurants. The area is very popular over week-ends in summer.
