The Marais is one of the most fascinating Parisian neighbourhoods. It was rescued from demolition in 1962 when President de Gaulle had the area proclaimed an historical monument.
Today tourists wander through the narrow streets which have come alive and vibrant with boutiques, galleries and restaurants, but still with a number of old artisanal shops, bakeries and small cafes.
