Issigeac is a small medieval town in le Perigord Pourpre (the Purple Perigord). The colour refers to the grapes grown in the area - Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The ancient buildings lining the narrow streets of Issigeac date back to the period between the 13th and 16th century although evidence of Gallo-Roman occupation can also be found.
The Sunday market in Issigeac is a centuries old tradition and still draws locals and tourists every week regardless of the weather..
