Parc Monceau dates back to the late 18th century and depicts the work of Louis Carmontelle, an amateur landscape and theatre designer who was commissioned by the Duc de Chartres to establish a garden near his Parisian home.
Carmontelle created "a garden of dreams" that included many architectural features imitating structures from the Roman, Egyptian and Renaissance periods.
