CANAL ST MARTIN
The Canal St Martin (10th arrondissement) connects the Canal de l'Orcq to the Seine. The canal was commissioned by Napoleon I in 1802 and was completed in 1825. The money for the project was raised by imposing a new tax on wine. Part of the canal runs underground between the Metro stations, Bastille and Republique.
