Vélib' - BICYCLE FREEDOM

Vélib' is an innovative Paris bicycle sharing system introduced in 2007.  Approximately 18 000 bicycles are distributed at 1 230 bicycle stations from whence they may be borrowed at a reasonable tariff and then, after use, returned to a similar station elsewhere.  On average 86 000 cyclists make use of this facility per day.  Paris has the highest degree of "market saturation" for such facilities with there being 1 bicycle available per 97 inhabitants!
